I've been using rails for many years, and worked with all sorts of databases: from universities, to high traffic websites, to financial exchanges. At these places I've massaged large data warehouses, built high volume online order processing and fulfillment systems, built concurrent trading engines, and all the while wrestled with Rails' antipathy towards the database. I have experienced intimately where Rails and surrounding ecosphere fails to support larger applications (just two of many examples: acts_as_list and aasm).
I speak regularly at user groups and am an experienced trainer, having taught not only programming but crazier topics like swing dancing, in both one-on-one and group settings.
